In the end of March and during the half of April 2014 Drilling Innovation LLC held a unique work to isolate a zone of total loss of drilling mud in the well No. 2SK in the West Kazakhstan region for Karpovskiy Severnyi LLP
The technology is that the absorption zone is opened to the maximum drilling depth , eliminating the likelihood of sticking the drilling string with subsequent reaming and overlap this interval by profile liner . Then the drilling is continuing and reaming the borehole and followed extension of already installed liner to isolate the lower range of the absorption zone.
Construction of an exploration well 2SK was made by LLP "Kazakhstan - Chinese Drilling Company " Great Wall . " Drilling was carried out by212, 7mm (8-3/8") bit , and it was planned to cased by 178mm (7") casing , the project TD - 5200 meters.
While 212.7mm (8-3/8") drilling at a depth of 4381m it was happened a complete loss of drilling mud even with maximum flow rate. The standard methods of trouble zone isolation by LCM could not help at all. Many types of chemicals were tied for isolation of loss zones and drilling could not continue. At the joint meeting, it was decided to isolate the absorption zone by profile liner technology (OLKS-216).
In the beginning it was reamed the interval 4361,5-4415 and it was set 50.33m of profile liner. After drilling the polymer shoe the complete absorption ceased but the drilling could be continued. With further drilling without circulation and borehole geophysical surveys (caliper log) it was defined the cavity. It was decided to set the additional Profile Liner OLKS-216 in interval range 4413-4492,05m overlapping the lower end of the first liner to the length of 2m. To this end were made with expanders Fraser and caliber dies with access to diameters of 222 and 228 mm. These works are allowed to hang the second Profile Liner to the first one and achieve passage section 217mm for further drilling with a 212.7mm (8-3/8") bit ( Figure 1).
At this time the well is drilled to TD at 5200m with 100% circulation.
