Packer technology

Isolation of lengthy intervals of production casing strings.

Application

The technology is used for isolation of lengthy intervals of production casing strings up to 1640 ft (500 m.). The system is installed for one trip.

Principle of operation

The casing interval is isolated from the well bore with the help of production liner and one or two packer-sleeves

Commercialization

The technology has been successfully used in 92 wells. All “two packer” system can be equipped with additional equipment depending on the tasks that should be solved by the Customer at the time of being and in the future. Except the above mentioned we offer the following equipment a downhole jack and a casing break-out device. Here in Russia we used them on workover jobs and fishing, emergency jobs.

 

Casing scraper

Application

Scraper is used for cleaning the inner surface of the casing from clay, cement crusts, paraffin deposits, corrosion scale, metal burrs, sagging, perforation marks, etc.

contains a body, pistons are installed in its transverse windows, interacting with knives installed in the body grooves. Under the action of fluid pressure, the pistons extend and press the knives against the walls of the casing while flushing through the lower hole.

Metall Patch

Application

Metal patch is used to isolate formations and seal casing in injection and producing wells.

Design and principle of operation

Metal patch is a steel branch pipe with necked-down tail pieces comprising rubber seals. To set metal patch into place tail pieces are expanded by a cone using hydraulic drive. If necessary, metal patch can be unseated and retrieved using a special tool. Metal patch is available for 146-mm and 168-mm casing strings with 110-mm and 130-mm ID, and up to 16 m in length. Pressure drop allowance up to 15 MPa.

Features

Savings in time and cost. Metal patch has a large inside diameter, and can easily be retrieved from the hole.

Commercialization

Metal patch has been successfully used in 600 Tatneft’s wells.

 

Equipment for cutting and extracting of metal patch

Application

The equipment is designed for cutting the metal patch from the well in one trip.

Design and principle of operation

Cutting and retrieving the metal patch from the well is carried out after successive cutting by the cutting element of the cutter in the longitudinal direction of the upper tapered tip of the metal patch by unloading the weight of the pipe string hanger on the upper cutter and the lower tapered end from the bottom up, due to the tension of the pipe string hanger by the lifting unit.

Consists of:

1 – upper cutter, 2 – upper cutter, 3 – catcher, 4 – eccentric, 5 – stock, 6 – thrust (tubing 2-3/8"), 7 – left-hand thread coupling, 8 – tubing

Downhole jack

Application

Downhole jack is used to retrieve stuck tools when hoist unit fails to do it.

Design and principle of operation.

Hydraulic principle of operation is employed. Downhole jack connected with a hydraulic anchor is run on the tubing or drill string and is connected with the stuck tool with the help of a fishing tool. Following it fluid is pumped under pressure into the casing. This actuates the anchor and the jack. In case the stuck tool is close to the surface, downhole jack can be used without anchor. Lifting capacity of the downhole jack is up to 154000 lb, length of stroke is 3.3 ft.

Features

Downhole jack is simple in design and safe in operation, with high lifting capacity.Commercialization. Downhole jack has been successfully used in more than 350 wells.

 

Casing break-out device

Application

The device is used for downhole breaking-out of casing. The device is designed for unscrewing of uncemented pipes of 5 ¾” and 6 5/8” casings.

Design and principle of operation.

The principle is based on transformation of progressive motion of the string into rotary motion with the help of coarse pitch screw. Hydraulic anchors convey rotation to the casing string.

Features

Breaking-out is carried out in the preset joint. The job is performed using tubing without rotation from the surface.

Commercialization

The device has been successfully used in 152 wells.
