South Tambeyskoye field was discovered in 1974. The field is located on north-east coast of the Yamal peninsula and some of it sinks beneath the waters of the Gulf of Ob.

South Tambeyskoye field is unique in terms of gas reserves and is one of the largest gas fields in the world. The field’s reserves according to C1+C2 evaluation are estimated at 1.256 trillion cubic meters..

Yamal LNG project is engaged in design, exploration, development and construction of the South Tambeyskoye field, including production drilling and lateral holes drilling provided by Investgeoservice Group of Companies.

As contractor for provision of whipstock services our company was selected. In July 2012 the equipment was shipped by helicopter to the well no. 155R, South Tambeyskoye field.

The climate of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Yamal) is determined by the presence of permafrost to the depth of up to 1312 ft. (400 m), the proximity of the cold Kara Sea, the abundance of bays, rivers, swamps and lakes. Keeping of productive activity is associated with increased requirements for environmental and industrial safety, difficult ice and geocryological environment, protection of environment for local population.

The rig is located in only a few meters away from of the Gulf of Ob. On July 28th, 2012, our engineer started to pick up BS-178 hydraulic type 7” whipstock including two 6” (152.4 mm) reaming mills. After whipstock’s orientation , setting of its anchor by 2204 psi (150 atm) pressure, the cutting was started. The window in thick-walled 7” (178 mm) casing (L steel grade) was cut out for 7 hours. Despite cutting the window by 7” reaming mills, 7” (152.4 mm) bit for drilling passed through the window without any complications. At the time of the news issuing the drilling team has already drilled 492 ft. (150 m) interval from 7217 ft (2200 m) planned of lateral bore.

With good luck wishes to team of Alexander Belyaev in his hard work !
